This week’s coding journey is a quick interview with Antonia. She first learned how to code when she was 8. Though she loved coding, she went on to study Primary Education for a Bachelor degree. She realised how she loves to teach and to code, voila! It’s a perfect combination for her. Please introduce yourself Hey there. My name is Antonia and I am a Coding Tutor for Teens and Kids.

Since graduating in International Relations, Krista had been to many places abroad either studying, researching her thesis or teaching English to an immigrant community. With her interest in computers and being in the flow when facing problem-solving challenges, Krista realised how much she wanted to switch a career into the tech sector. This interview will give you some insight on how she prepared for job interviews, which strategies she used applying for Microsoft Leap Apprenticeship Program.

This week’s coding journey is from Stefanni who is my fellow indie hacker and a self-taught developer. Even though Stefanni faced many rejections from job hunting at the beginning, She kept reminding herself the reasons why she wants to be a developer. Read on for the full journey below! I’ve been working with Rails for the past 4 years and I love being part of the Ruby community.

From social worker turned data analyst/engineer and this is Eric’s journey into the tech industry. Please introduce yourself My name is Eric Burden, I’m an IT Senior Principal Consultant for NTT DATA Services in the State Health Consulting group. I’m currently serving as a Technical Analyst on a state Comprehensive Child Welfare Information System (CCWIS). My main role is to shepherd the ETL process from the legacy system to a newly procured system, making sure to maintain (or hopefully improve) data quality in the process.

Douglas worked in the restaurant business for 15 years before changing his career in his 30s. He overcame Attention Deficit Disorder and learned coding with the motto “work towards the goal little by little I just accomplish it”. From a non-tech background, Telmo used to be a grape picker , a bartender and used to work in a warehouse. Learning to code changed his life in many ways and now he’s a team lead in Marley Spoon. From a Barista to a Frontend Developer. Brenda is a self-taught developer without a CS Degree. She actually has a background in Classical Music. This is her coding journey how she made a career transition into tech. Please introduce yourself Hey I’m Brenda and I am a Junior Front End Developer at Square Enix. What was your background before learning to code? I actually studied Classical Music specialising in piano performance at the University of Manchester but ended up working in hospitality in my 20’s.

Porfirio has grown up on a farm, a school dropout and ran his own not so successful grocery store. Trying to find what he loves doing and has the most interest in, it took him a long time to rekindle his passion in tech. This is an inspiring coding journey on how he found the company he wanted to work for, and how he made it from a junior software developer to a CTO.

From a sound engineer who lost a job during the pandemic to a software developer. Mack worked in live events as a sound engineer who managed teams of engineers and complex sound systems for the likes of Stevie Wonder, Kanye West. He enjoyed what he did but when the pandemic hit the world, he reconsidered his career choice. Going through bootcamp has landed him a job as a software engineer after a month searching for jobs.

From curiosity in customising a blog, developed into an interest in coding. Shakima started out in Early childhood education as a Teacher’s Aide, then had to switch to a role in customer service. Out of frustration, she rekindled with her past interest and dived into the tech world since. I hope you enjoy the journey! I am the go-to person for integration troubleshooting, technical support, product knowledge and solution engineering.

I’ve been followed Laura on Twitter and seen her coding journey from before she started a Bootcamp. One day I saw this tweet that she got a job. I thought wow! That was quick! Linda changed her path from a computer engineering (focus on hardware) student to a self-taught frontend developer and hired during a pandemic. Please introduce yourself My name is Linda Ikechukwu. I’m a Frontend developer. I currently work at Omnibiz (which is a subsidiary of Tolaram Group) as a React Js frontend developer. My primary responsibility is to maintain and implement new UI features for the omnibiz dashboard application. It’s an all-in-one saas sales solution for manufacturers and distributors.

I had a chance to talk with a self-taught developer who learned to code for 9 months before getting a job in tech. Nadia Zhuk is now a Ruby Developer at Zendesk and an aspiring writer.Recently, she wrote a book about how to learn to code and build a programming career, Crossing the Rubycon. Background before switching a career in the tech sector Nadia was an English translator and a journalist before she found her new challenging career in coding at age 25.
